The Bee Who Wanted to Be Sure

A gentle story about memory, truth, and self-reflection

In a quiet corner of the meadow lived a small bee named Bramble. Bramble was thoughtful, tender-hearted, and carried memories that sometimes felt heavier than his wings could hold.

One day, Bramble felt a sting inside — not from another creature, but from a memory that rose up suddenly, sharp and certain. He wasn't sure if it was real, but it felt real, and that frightened him.

Bramble flew to the old wooden hive post, the one where bees carved their reflections and reminders. He placed his tiny feet on the grain of the wood and whispered:

"Before I make an accusation, I must pause.
Is what I'm feeling true?
Did this really happen, or is my mind trying to protect me in its own way?"

Bramble wasn't ashamed of the question. He knew that memories can be honest, but they can also be tangled — especially when a heart has been shaken before.

So he did what wise bees do:
He asked for clarity.

He flew to his brother, Rowan, a bee he trusted with the softest parts of himself.

"Are my memories real?" Bramble asked.
"Did this or that truly happen, or have I imagined pieces of it?"

Rowan listened with patience, the way bees do when they love someone. Together, they sorted through what was true, what was uncertain, and what belonged to old fear rather than fact.

And Bramble learned something important:

Words, once spoken, cannot be taken back.
Accusations land like stones — even if dropped by accident.

So Bramble made a promise to himself:

If what I remember is true,
I will do what I need to do
to bring justice and safety to my heart.
But if it is not true,
I will do the inner work
to set myself free from the shadows
My mind was created to protect me.

The meadow didn't judge him.
The hive didn't shame him.
And Bramble didn't shame himself either.

He simply chose honesty, reflection, and courage —
the kind that grows slowly, like honey forming drop by drop.

And from that day on, whenever a memory rose up suddenly, Bramble returned to the wooden post and whispered:

"Pause. Reflect.
Be sure.
Your truth matters — and so does your integrity."
